The Power Goals Have Over Us

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

Goals have power over us. They have power because we give them power, that's the purpose of a goal. We give it power to drive us, to motivate us, to metap

horically stand down the road of life and cheer us on to reach them. Often though we fail to set goals. Why?

One reason we often fail to set goals is because we don't place our metaphorical cheerleaders (your goals) in the right position on the road of life. We either set our goals so big, or so far down the road that they don't seem attainable. We get frustrated, procrastinate, and give up, sometimes before we even start. This makes us feel crushed, depressed, and have negative feelings.

Another reason is we can fail to set goals is because we make them to small or to close on the road to life. We take one step, take one action, invest one minute, and goal accomplished. That doesn't motivate us. Without effort there is no reward. Making us feel unmotivated, or gives us an excuse to be "lazy".

So how do we place our goals so that the power we give them empowers us?

We simply make SMART goals; We make them Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. When you set your goal all five of these areas should be inline with one another. If you do that. The power of your goals will work for you not against you.
